Electoral District 7, encompassing Cheshire Hall and Richmond Hill in Providenciales, has experienced significant development and community engagement under the leadership of Honourable Samuel “Sammy” Been. Since his election in February 2021, Hon. Been has focused on enhancing infrastructure, fostering community well-being, and addressing environmental concerns to improve the quality of life for his constituents.

The constituency has seen substantial infrastructure enhancements, including the successful completion of road work on Academy Way and Aviation Drive. This project was part of an emergency order with a $1.5 million budget allocation, aimed at addressing critical transportation needs and mitigating flooding issues. The newly paved roads have significantly improved traffic flow and accessibility in the area. Following this accomplishment, Hon. Been has assured residents that attention will next be given to the roads in Kew Town, particularly the road near Mr. Gilbert Selver’s location.

Honourable Been has actively engaged with his constituents through various initiatives. In response to concerns about crime, he has been vocal in addressing safety issues and has called on residents to collaborate with law enforcement to ensure community security. Hon. Been has consistently engaged in meetings and walkabouts with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force’s executive team on matters related to crime, specifically the crime levels in the Kew Town and Dook Yard areas.

Environmental stewardship is a key focus in the constituency, particularly concerning the preservation of natural resources and addressing environmental hazards Hon. Been has been involved in discussions regarding the management of waste disposal in Kew Town. In August 2021, he began engaging with various government agencies to bring an end to the seemingly wanton disposal of solid waste in the Kew Town area. He dispatched a team to engage with residents to hear their concerns and to educate them on proper waste disposal practices.

Through these concerted efforts, Electoral District 7 continues to progress toward a more prosperous, safe, and environmentally conscious community, reflecting the dedication of its leadership and the active participation of its residents.

Key Achievements and Initiatives in Electoral District 7:

Road Infrastructure and Upgrades
Through partnership efforts, 22 roads have been graded and paved. Major repairs have also been carried out on Industrial Park Road, and existing speed bumps have been repaired, with additional speed bumps planned to enhance road safety.

Enhanced Community Safety and Policing
Regular walkabouts with the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force and town hall meetings have been conducted to address community concerns. Security has been strengthened with the launch of a mobile police station, providing consistent patrols and a greater security presence. Additionally, under the Governor’s emergency program, three access roads are being cleared to connect Kewtown and Blue Hills, improving mobility and safety.

Flood Mitigation and Solar Lighting Enhancements
More than 40 wells have been drilled, with four more in progress, significantly reducing flooding throughout the constituency. Solar lights are being installed to enhance visibility and safety.

Green Spaces and Beautification Initiatives
Tree planting exercises, in collaboration with Graceway Communities, have been carried out at the SNAP Centre, alongside the development of playgrounds for the SNAP Centre and Ashley Learning Centre. Cleanup initiatives continue to maintain the cleanliness and beauty of the community.

Investing in Youth – Sports and Recreation
A one-acre land donation has been secured for a community soccer field. Through a joint initiative with the Police Action League, youth engagement in sports is being encouraged to promote teamwork, discipline, and healthy lifestyles.

Community Support and Social Outreach
The spirit of community support remains strong with food distribution, clothing drives, and furniture donations, ensuring that those in need receive essential assistance.

Affordable Housing Development
The government remains committed to providing affordable housing, with 61 private low-cost homes approved for development in the Kewtown area. These homes will provide more residents with access to homeownership and stable living conditions.

Future Development – New Community Park
Plans are in motion for the creation of a new community park in collaboration with private stakeholders. This space will feature a community farm, recreational areas, and free Wi-Fi, serving as a vibrant hub for connection, learning, and leisure.
