Honourable Josephine Connolly
Josephine Connolly is one of Turks and Caicos’ most seasoned and impactful leaders, serving as the Minister of Tourism, Environment, Maritime, Culture, Heritage, and Religious Affairs. With a career in public service spanning over a decade, Connolly has been instrumental in shaping policies that prioritize sustainable growth, cultural heritage, and the economic well-being of Turks and Caicos Islanders. Her extensive career in public service began with her election to the House of Assembly in 2012, where she has since held prominent roles, including Deputy Speaker. With a strong background in both politics and business, Connolly has been a champion for strategic, community-centered development across the nation.
As Minister of Tourism, Connolly led the transformation of the Tourist Board into a Destination Management and Marketing Organization (DMMO), known as Experience Turks and Caicos. This shift toward a DMMO has optimized the nation’s tourism management, strengthening its global reputation while ensuring that the economic benefits reach local communities. Her leadership has also secured Turks and Caicos’ spot on the world stage, drawing numerous tourism accolades and record-breaking visitor numbers, which continue to fuel the country’s economic growth.
Connolly’s portfolio goes beyond tourism. She signed the nation’s first Climate Change Charter, demonstrating her commitment to addressing climate resilience and environmental stewardship. Her work in other areas of her Ministry, such as culture and heritage, promotes the preservation of the Islands’ unique history, while her role in religious affairs supports the community’s spiritual unity. Active in various causes, Connolly is also the President of the Girl Guides Association and patron of the Soroptimists, roles that reflect her dedication to empowering women and youth across the islands.
